Figure Competitor, Online Fitness Coach and Modus Athlete

Tell me a little bit about your fitness journey

Fitness is my passion. When I was in my teens, I used to read my Dad’s Muscle & Fitness magazines and attempt to lift weights in our unfinished basement with a weight bench and some dumbbells. I was like, "I would love to see if I could do that. The way you change your body, like a sculpture.”

I was just never committed to it and wasn’t ready to do the diet aspect. At that time figure competitions had gymnastics routines, so I actually took gymnastics at age 20 with a bunch of 10-year-olds. That was really awkward. I was like, "Okay, this isn't for me." I just stopped.

After that I taught aerobics, I was a personal trainer, but always in the back of my mind I always thought, "Let me try to do that." Then a few years back they got rid of the routine part and it was strictly just posing. I was like, "Okay, now I'm back in.” I thought I'd do a one-and-done, a bucket list thing, but it was a blast and I couldn’t wait to do it again - the whole thing. The dieting, the training, the posing, the tanning, everything.

What does your daily routine look like?

Typically go to the gym at 4:30 in the morning. People always ask me why so early. There's two reasons. I like to be done and not impacting my family, so I am in the gym and home before anybody's out of bed. And, the gym is empty. It's actually starting to get more crowded at 4:30, but I used to be able to just go in there and whatever I needed was free.

I’d get home by 6:15 a.m., husband out the door, get the kids ready for school, drop the kids off, and then I work full-time in corporate. It's a desk job. I have a standing desk, but I sit most of the day. Work for the day, go home, have dinner with my family, and then I work on my side-hustle doing online fitness coaching.

I love that it's plant based. For me, there’s no belly issues and no bloating which is rare for a protein powder for me. Obviously, it's much higher quality then what you can get in your typical supplement shop or grocery store.

Tell us about your experience with Modus

I love, love, love the protein, there’s a number of reasons for it too. It tastes amazing, it doesn't taste chalky, there's no after-taste. As a chocolate lover, I found the taste and blend-ability of Modus Nutrition’s protein powder excellent.

I hate protein shakes - I refuse to drink my protein. I enjoy all of my calories, so it has to be edible. I love protein as snacks, so I find a million and one ways to eat it. I just find that the Modus Nutrition Protein fit's in there. It's bake-able, it's microwavable, it's easily mixable. If you add a little bit of water to make like a paste or a pudding, which is kind of the standard I live by for any of my protein. Modus does that very well.

How about Power ON?

I've been using Power ON as my mid-afternoon coffee replacement. I drink so much coffee, I’m trying to get away it. I find that a lot of time by three or four o'clock, I'm ready to take a nap, but taking Power ON is perfect for that mid-afternoon focus and energy.

How about Power OFF?

I usually don't need help falling asleep, but towards the end of my competition prep I was finding that I was struggling more. I also really liked Power OFF. I found that if I took it right before bed it just helped me fall asleep more easily. It relaxed me.

How about Power BALANCE?

I just started using Power BALANCE probably two weeks ago. I use it during the day at work when I find I'm getting very stressed or anxious and I just need to be grounded and calmed down. I do find that it just makes me feel, I don't know, more, for lack of a better term, balanced and level. I'm definitely going to try it for my next competition.

How has it been working with Modus so far?

There was another company I partnered with a while ago, but I feel like there’s much quality around Modus Nutrition - the products, the company, the communication - I feel like there's just a rigor to it that I like.

The other company I was with, I kinda felt like it was a haphazard type of one-foot-in, one-foot-out type of thing and that's not who I wanna be aligned with. That's not how I operate, ya know what I mean? So, I find that I like supporting Modus and aligning with you guys cause you have higher standards overall.

So what’s next?

I’m in the heart of off-season, looking forward to coming back even better next year. I plan to raise the stakes again - compete in three or more shows in 2019. I’m keeping my Modus products in my routine throughout the off-season because I know protein and rest are two key aspects to making serious gains.
